CALL FOR PROJECTS

For a socio-romantic exhibition

Artist-friends of Atelier 340 Muzeum

After the laxative administered by Ms Fadila Laanan, French-speaking Belgium’s Minister of Culture, i.e. cancellation of all subsidies to Atelier 340 Muzeum and stripping us of 50% of our collection – a hard-gained heritage – by means of a purchase disguised as a subsidy (for our own good!). Atelier 340 Muzeum will become a cultural entity with no state subsidies; but at least it won’t be swallowed up in the nationalization of cultural institutions by the Minister of Culture. Atelier 340 Muzeum will always remain an independent cultural centre for artists and its public.

To get cultural activities moving again after the Minister of Culture’s speculative treatment, Atelier 340 Muzeum would like to begin - and somewhat boost morale - with an exhibition to be called “Artist-friends of Atelier 340 Muzeum”.

This exhibition will be in two parts, the first in the nature of a history of Atelier 340 Muzeum’s activities with artists who have shown here in the past, while the second part will consist of works by ‘artist-friends’ who are either unknown to Atelier 340 Muzeum or have yet to be included in one of its exhibitions.

We therefore invite such ‘artist-friends’ to send us by 4 June 2011 a proposal of three works (in the form of a small dossier with photos, DVDs or sketches). We would then choose from among the dossiers: Atelier 340 Muzeum’s space is not unlimited, even if it does run to 2000 m². The works can be earmarked for our street, our park or our rooms. Atelier 340 Muzeum will cover costs of transport and insurance, and may in some cases contribute to the cost of making the works. The exhibition is open to all categories of visual art.

The exhibition will be held at Atelier 340 Muzeum, from 5 August to 30 October 2011.
